O  Psilocybe cubensis , known in Brazil as “magic mushrooms”, is a very common mushroom in pastures located in tropical and subtropical zones. The natural substrate of cubensis is cow dung, being considered a saprophytic fungus. In some places it also grows in the dung of elephant, horse and other animals that feed on grasses. It is often found at the hottest times of the year, after several days of rain and sun.
 
 Several strains of this mushroom are cultivated worldwide by collectors. Some of these strains were obtained directly from the fungus growing in its natural habitat, others were obtained through crossbreeding, cloning and genetic selection. Many of these strains have satisfactory biological efficiency, and each has its own phenotypic characteristic. Some are dark, some leucistic, some are completely albino. Some are big and hollow, others are short and massive. The wide variety of  Psilocybe cubensis  allows the grower to explore different strains with different colors, for hobby and/or study purposes.
